Let’s Talk Lighting

A lot of people don’t know anything about event lighting, especially in the Toledo area. And although the trend of uplighting and architectural lighting at parties is a growing craze in places like L.A., New York, and Chicago, many people still give us funny looks when we say we own an event lighting company.
Some of the questions we get are:
“Don’t halls already have lights?”
“Who wants more lights on the dance floor, won’t less people dance?”
“Don’t the lights get really hot? Sounds like a safety hazard…”
“Isn’t uplighting really expensive?”
The short answers to these questions are: well duh, not necessarily, not ours, and depends on where you go.
Let me elaborate.
“Don’t halls already have lights?”
Of course halls already have lights. Here’s the thing about the lights already in halls – they are unflattering, not usually well placed, and sometimes even the devil of all types of lighting – Flourescent! (booooooooooooooo) Oftentimes these lights are mounted on the ceilings only, casting shadows on everyone’s faces, and making them look like zombies. As you can imagine, this is a perfect look for a bride on her wedding day! :/
A lot of halls try to combat this with lights that can be dimmed – which is great… if your goal is to simply make everything darker. But think about all the money you spent on your centerpieces and flowers? Too bad nobody will see them in the dark. Your cake that you designed yourself with the topper it took you weeks to find? You might as well have gotten a sheet cake from Kroger. And your beautiful wedding dress that made your mom cry when you put it on? What’s the point if you’re just going to be in the dark? Ambient Effects Lighting can and will fix all of this, and very simply. The very nature of uplighting is that it’s very flattering, and much more interesting. We can aim mini spotlights at your centerpieces and wedding cake that will highlight them throughout the entire night. We can even train a follow spot on the bride during all the most important parts of the night, making it truly an event to remember.
“Who wants more lights on the dance floor, won’t less people dance?”
Dance floor lighting is an important part of any event. Think about the last time you went to a really cool club or bar – A big part of the ambiance (see what we did there?) is interesting, changing, effects lighting. Our lights can pulstate to the beat of the music, change colors, and even strobe. What sounds like more fun – Dancing in semi-darkness where you can barely see who you’re dancing with? Or a serious club type atmosphere that will make your guests get a little wild?
“Don’t the lights get really hot? Sounds like a safety hazard…”
Some DJ lights do get very hot. Ours don’t. We specialize in LED lighting, which is not only extremely energy efficient, but also stays very cool. You can lay a hand directly on the surface of our lights after five hours of being on and they would still be just as cool as when we first turned them on.
“Isn’t uplighting really expensive?”
It can be. However, that’s what is great about Ambient Effects. Our lighting packages can be tailored to your event and budget, making it easy to get that million-dollar look you’ve been searching for.
